Hearing self-test

Map out an estimated audiogram with your own headphones. Keep it for your own records, hear it in the simulator, or bring it to your doctor.

Before you start

Takes about 10–15 minutes. You can pause at any point.

How it works

You’ll hear short, pulsed beeps in one ear at a time, at eight pitches. Press the button (or the space bar) whenever you hear one, even if it’s very faint. The beeps get quieter until you stop hearing them, then louder until you do.

If you have tinnitus, listen for the pulsing. That’s how the test tones differ from ringing.

What the results are

An estimate, not a clinical audiogram. A browser can’t know exactly how loud your headphones play, so results are relative to your device and volume setting. The shape of your hearing (which pitches, which ear, and roughly how much) is what this is good for. It’s a useful thing to bring to your doctor, not a replacement for a clinical hearing test.

Your privacy

Your results are saved only in this browser, on this device. They’re never uploaded or stored by us, and they only leave your device if you choose to share or print them.
